WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF A BASE MONO?
The overall outside dimensions of the Mono are: 8’6”W x 16’6”L x 12’H (includes 4’ attached deck on the front). The total footprint of livable space is 106 sq/ft.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF A BASE DUO?
The overall outside dimensions of a Base Duo are: 10’6”W x 16’6”L x 12’H (includes 4’ attached deck on the front). The total footprint of livable space starts at 131 sq/ft and goes up, depending on amenities or extensions chosen.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET THE MONO IN A LARGER SIZE?
Yes. It is possible to lengthen a Mono, the option is to add 4ft increments at a time. Outside of those measurements we would need to have a discussion. Also a point to note, lengthening a Mono will likely require a building permit. The Mono has been structured as a package deal, with a few options to choose from but its main aim is to provide a simple, elegant space. Any modifications from this platform, we’d be happy to place you into a Duo or a Custom Crafted.
DOES A DROP STRUCTURE REQUIRE A BUILDING PERMIT?
Depends. When talking about a Mono most municipalities in Canada regarding outbuildings or sheds that are under 107 sq/ft (120 sq/ft USA)* and detached from the main dwelling, do not usually require building permits.
If you’re considering something bigger than a standard Mono, like a Duo or Custom Crafted, or you need a structure with some amenities, you are most assuredly going to need permits of some kind.
*Always check with your local building authorities before adding or altering structures on your property.
WHAT PERMITS MIGHT I NEED BEFORE INSTALLING A DROP STRUCTURE?
A DROP Structures design and components are built to conform to both Canadian and US building codes for ADU’s, Accessory Buildings, Outbuildings and Transient Lodging structures. However, each country, city, province, territory, state, and town can have their own code interpretations, specific bylaws, or zoning regulations relating to these types of structures. Therefore, acceptance by your local authorities must be confirmed by the Client/Purchaser in advance. Upon submitting a Design Phase deposit, DROP Structures can provide most of the drawings for permit applications.
HOW IS A DROP STRUCTURE SHIPPED?
Once we have gone through the process of designing + building your structure and transport has been decided, it's shipped complete, directly to your desired location via semi-truck and trailer.*
Please keep in mind that you will need to arrange for the appropriate equipment to unload/move your DROP Structure into place, ie: Crane, Telehandler, Skid Steer(s), Fork Lift, etc.
*Transportation is NOT included in the unit price, F.O.B. Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. A standard width Mono is calculated $1/km, a standard width Duo at $2/km, and Custom Crafted/Commercial is TBD, to the final destination. Delivery is curb-side, all site prep and equipment necessary to unload/place structure is the responsibility of the Client.
WHAT TYPE OF FOUNDATION DOES IT SIT ON?
We suggest you pick a foundation that works best for your location or site, however, our small units (107 sq/ft and under) do not require a fixed foundation system*. The Mono’s are engineered and designed to rest on solid level ground. If you have a larger unit like the Duo, talk to your local building/development authorities. *Clients are responsible for any and all site prep at your desired location.
WHAT IS THE INSULATION LIKE? CAN IT SURVIVE WINTER?
Absolutely. Every Mono is insulated to handle 4 seasons living. You can be sure that you'll stay toasty warm through the coldest of winters. All other units like the Duo, Custom or Commercial are built specific to your regions requirements.
DO YOUR UNITS COME WITH HEATING/AC OR VENTILATION?
Our standard Mono and Duo units come equipped with a passive ventilation system, keep the air fresh and a sleek low profile electric heater. If you're looking to keep things cooler during the summer months, a PTAC or Mini-split unit can be fitted into most structures, which handles cooling and/or heating. If you have demands for more air flow, a separate ventilation system can be installed. Otherwise, the combination of a door and window for a cross breeze always does the job.
IS THERE AN UPPER LOFT BED?
Lofts do not come standard in our structures, however, they are available as an option. If you would like to sleep a few more people, have more storage and keep the main level for living space, a loft is the way to go.
WHERE IS THE KITCHEN OR BATHROOM?
Our standard Mono does not have an option with a kitchen or bathroom. However, if you like the look of a Mono but need some amenities, we can discuss other designs such as the Duo or design a Custom Crafted.
DOES DROP STRUCTURES HIRE INTERNS?
We are always on the lookout for talented people. Drop us a line, and we can see if you're a good fit for our team!
