MAKING SPACE – CASEY, HEAD OF DESIGN & DRAFTING

Purpose, vision and aesthetics – every DROP Structure is a distinct blend of these key ingredients.

Finding the balance between all three, while incorporating building codes from across the continent, requires a knowledgeable team who not only knows what you can’t do, but is skilled enough to guide buyers around obstacles to build the structure that works for their vision.

Casey Hattersley, the head of drafting and design for DROP Structures, works with every one of our clients to help them find their balance.

“As a draftsman, it’s my job to bring knowledge of the building code, and my ability to design and draft a structure that follows the applicable code, while still achieving the aesthetic we’re known for,” Casey said.

From crafting custom work to designing compromises, Casey guides every client through the process of creating a DROP Structure that best suits their needs and their vision.

Meet Casey

Casey started his journey to drafting working in construction. For over 6 years, he built custom homes, doing everything from foundations to framing and finishing. As he moved through the industry, he became more and more interested in the plans.

“From the first time I started looking at plans on the construction site, I was hooked,” he said.

So, he moved on from construction, enrolling in the Engineering, Design & Drafting program to pursue his dream. After getting his diploma, he moved into the modular, manufactured building space as a draftsman.

“This helped me understand the field of manufacturing, at a large scale,” he said. “I have incorporated that knowledge, into all of our designs, to help create a product that is scalable and efficient, while maintaining the aesthetic that is at the heart of DROP Structures.”

Today, he brings together his understanding of manufacturing with a deep knowledge of building codes and a strong design ethos to help our clients spec their dream DROP Structure.

A creative guide to greatness

Casey’s been with us as Head of Design and Drafting since 2020.

“My favourite part of working with clients is helping them achieve their goals through‌ the design and construction of their structure,” he said.

This passion, with Casey’s knowledge and skill set, gives our clients the confidence to pursue any idea, without worrying that it could affect the integrity of the structure or otherwise cause them grief down the line.

That’s why Casey is part of our process from the very start. Even before most clients speak to him, he’s there working with the sales team to ensure we can fulfill every promise we make at a price that’s sustainable for us and our clients.

This allows us to remain nimble, re-design as necessary, approach problems with solutions and craft each structure to uniquely match every client’s desires.

The first step from vision to reality

Making dreams a reality is one of the core concepts that drives DROP Structures forward. Design and drafting is the middle man in this trip, the midwife that helps bring a dream along its first steps to reality.

That’s why we believe having a draftsman like Casey on site, ready to deal with any problems that come up, is essential to the success of every building.

This allows our clients to get as creative as they want, knowing he will be there beside them guiding them through minor changes to existing designs or entirely new floor plans that expand the DROP Structures design language and push us all forward.

Making Space is a new series of articles where we introduce our team and the value they bring to every structure, cabin and backyard retreat we build.
